Does the laser treatment hurt?
Treatment with the laser is not a painful experience. The sensation is typically described as a small pinprick or of an elastic band “flicked” against the skin. For some of the procedures, a local anaesthetic is used to alleviate discomfort. For all laser treatment procedures a cooling gel is applied prior to the treatment and cool packs often used at the end of the treatment.
Do I need to take any precautions before my laser treatment?
All laser treatments have an effect on the surface of the skin and it is important that you do not expose the area to be treated to sunlight, sun beds or tanning products in the 4 weeks prior to your treatment. In addition you will need to apply sunscreen of SPF30 or higher following your treatment to maintain the effects. This will help to protect your skin from the damaging effect of the sun.
I have a dark skin and would like laser treatment, is this problem?
At Enliven, all of our clinicians are trained in the appropriate use of the lasers and the treatments which are offered. Prior to treating anyone, the clinician will carry out a “test spot” to ensure the optimum level of energy is delivered for your treatment. If you have darker skin we will carry out a test spot 2 weeks before you wish to start your treatment, simply to ensure that the energy does not cause a damaging effect to your pigmentation.
If I have Botox™, how soon will I see an effect on my wrinkles?
The use of Botox™ or any muscle relaxant injection will see results 7-14 days after treatment. You will be advised not to undertake excessive physical activity on the day of your injection, to avoid alcohol and not to touch the injected areas. We will ask you to use the muscles of your face for a couple of hours after injections to ensure a good uptake of the material into the muscles. At Enliven we see you again between 2-3 weeks after your injection to assess the response and, if necessary to add slightly to the initial injections. This ensures that we deliver the exact amount of Botox™ for your needs and avoid any excessive effects of the injection.
I am interested in having a dermal filler- is it painful?
Dermal fillers are used extensively to gain a fuller, smopother complexion and to minimse the effects of deep wrinkles. At Enliven we would use a topical anaesthetic when injecting into the area around the nose anad mouth (Naso-labial folds). If we are injecting into the lip area, our experienced clinicians use a local anaesthetic to numb the area. You may experience some bruising and swelling following these injections, but this is only temporary.
